RAJKOT: A trader has been allegedly duped of more than Rs 2.60 crore by his partner. Police arrested Rushi Mehta on the complaint of Jenti Baraiya (40), a resident of Madhav Park-1 Karmachari Society.
In his complaint, Baraiya has alleged that Mehta, a salesman of an electronic firm in Morbi and who lives in Railnagar of Rajkot, befriended him and took him into confidence for investing in his partnership. "Mehta promised high returns to Baraiya if the latter invested money. Baraiya had a shop of electronic goods and Mehta told him that he would buy the electronic goods from his company in Morbi at lower rates and earn profit by selling them at higher rates," said an official from University police station where the case in this connection has been registered.
At the instance of Mehta, Baraiya set up an electronic goods shop on Sadhu Vasvani Road in September 2016. "From September 2016 till the present year, Baraiya gave a total of Rs 2,60,98,173 to Mehta in instalments. Whenever Baraiya talked of returns, Mehta would promise him higher returns in future. Later, Mehta gave him Rs 4.30 lakh and a cheque which bounced when deposited. When Baraiya tried to contact Mehta over phone, Mehta went incommunicado . Finally, Baraiya approached the police," the official said.
