Ian Holloway’s side are turning their home ground into a fortress, having beaten high-flying Wolves and Sheffield United in recent weeks. 

However, are marooned in mid-table largely because their away form is not up to scratch.

Villa head into the game in possession of the final play-off spot but Steve Bruce is missing a number of key players due to injury.

Aston Villa win a penalty for a foul on Keinan Davis in the aftermath of Josh Onomah’s shot. 

Albert Adomah cooly fires high into the goal.

Albert Adomah finds space on the left and whips in a cross, it falls to Robert Snodgrass but his shot is blocked. The ball bounces perfectly to Josh Onomah and he shoots into the ground but it hits the bar. 

40: SAVE!

Keinan Davis bundles Jack Robinson over in QPR’s box, the referee waves play on much to the annoyance of the home fans, he turns and shoots but Alex Smithies palms it away.

38: BOOKING!

Glenn Whelan sees yellow for a foul on Jamie Mackie during QPR’s previous attack. 

37: CHANCE!

Aston Villa break after Luke Freeman’s counter attack breaks down, Robert Snodgrass drives into the box and shoots but his effort his blocked. The ball falls to Albert Adomah, he cuts it back to Keinan Davis but his snapshot is blocked.

32: SAVE!

Aston Villa pounce on a defensive blunder from QPR, Keinan Davis plays in Josh Onomah, who creeps into the box and strikes low at goal but Alex Smithies pushes it wide. 

31: CHANCE!

A glorious chance for Albert Adomah to equalise but he screws it wide. 

Good link-up play between Keinan Davis and Josh Onomah sets Adomah free but he loses his cool from 10 yards out.

Aston Villa almost draw level. Conor Hourihane’s corner falls to Albert Adomah on the edge of the box but he screws his passed effort wide. 

18: GOAL!

Jamie Mackie fires QPR ahead from less than a yard. 

Jack Robinson floats a corner into the six-yard box, Aston Villa keeper Sam Johnstone fails to deal with it and after Joel Lynch taps it towards the goal, Mackie nips into the hammer home.

12: CHANCE!

Keinan Davis finds Conor Hourihane in space around 25 yards from goal, the Aston Villa midfielder hits a low shot at goal but it sails past the post. 

8: SAVE!

Aston Villa fail to clear a QPR corner, the ball falls perfectly to Massimo Luongo, his shot is deflected and Sam Johnstone manages to scramble it past the post.  

5: CHANCE!

Aston Villa have had most of the ball so far and Josh Onomah draws a foul in the middle of the pitch.

Robert Snodgrass sends the free-kick into the box, it’s at an awkward angle for Samba who attempts a scorpion kick but it sails wide.

1: PEEP!

Aston Villa get us underway at Loftus Road. 

3pm: The two teams are out, the players go through their pre-match routines and kick-off is imminent. 

The Aston Villa line up is read out by QPR's match announcer and there are a few boos for Chris Samba. To be honest, I'd forgotten he even played for QPR.

2.55pm: We're five minutes away from kick-off. It's a damp afternoon in west London, and I can spot a fair few empty seats around the ground. 

2.30pm: The BBC’s super computer is struggling to predict a clear winner in this one.

QPR and Aston Villa are both rated as having 36 per cent changes of victory while a draw is a 28 per cent shot. 

Meanwhile, Sky Sports’ Championship expert David Prutton believes QPR will claim all three points. 

“Aston Villa beware,” he said. 

“QPR at Loftus Road is turning into one of the toughest trips in the Sky Bet Championship, and Ian Holloway and his men will fancy another scalp on Saturday.

“The Hoops turned over Sheffield United and Wolves at home in recent weeks, and they'd be a lot higher up the table if they could just take that form on the road. 

“I think this will be another big three points for QPR.”

2.15pm: The line ups are out and there's a number of changes from both teams.

QPR make three changes from the 4-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest before the international break.

David Wheeler, Idrissa Sylla and Conor Washington drop to the bench for Jordan Cousins, Jamie Mackie and Matt Smith.

Aston Villa, beset by injury problems, also make three changes.

John Terry, Scott Hogan and Ahmed Elmohamady are ruled out so Neil Taylor, Chris Samba and Josh Onomah come in.
