NEW DELHI: Shares of Max Financial Services (up 5.48 per cent), Shriram Transport Finance Company (up 5.31 per cent) and Central Bank of India (up 5.30 per cent) surged over 5 per cent in the BSE Midcap index in afternoon trade on Friday.

The S&P BSE Midcap index was 1.17 per cent up at 16,697, while the benchmark Sensex was 0.99 per cent up at 33,436. The NSE Nifty50 index was 0.97 per cent up at 10,314.

Shares of Adani Enterprises (up 4.01 per cent), Biocon (up 4 per cent), Blue Dart Express (up 3.95 per cent), GE T&D India (up 3.18 per cent) and Steel Authority of India (SAIL) (up 2.98 per cent) rose up to 4 per cent in the midcap index.

On the other hand, Page Industries (down 2.07 per cent), Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Company (down 1.85 per cent), Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail (down 1.20 per cent) and GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals (down 1.19 per cent) were trading in the red in the midcap space.

Among the 51 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 34 were trading in the green, while 15 were in the red.

ICICI Bank, Cipla, Tata Steel, HDFC, Bharti Airtel and State Bank of India were topping the Sensex chart.

On the contrary, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, Dr Reddy's, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation and Hero MotoCorp were among the top losers.
