Ban on use of generator sets and prohibition on open burning of garbage will continue in Delhi, Lt Governor Anil Baijal said today while lifting the emergency measures that were taken in view of the poor air quality here.
The LG said that other measures such as increased frequency of metro and mechanical sweeping of city's roads will be in place.
Baijal today chaired a meeting to review the air pollution situation, which was attended by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, Environment Minister Imraan Hussain, EPCA Chairman Bhure Lal and other senior officers.
The emergency measures were lifted after the air quality in Delhi improved.
"Emergency measures lifted but measures like prohibition on open burning of garbage, mechanical sweeping of roads, increased frequency of metro & ban on use of generator sets to continue & to be strictly enforced by all agencies," the LG tweeted.
Yesterday, authorities in the city withdrew emergency measures such as the ban on entry of trucks and restore parking fee to usual rates.
Earlier in the day, the National Green Tribunal also lifted its ban on construction activities in the Delhi-NCR owing to improvement in air quality.
Today, Delhiites breathed easy as the air quality turned better and remained outside the "severe plus" category for the fourth day.
SAFAR (System of Air Quality And Weather Forecasting And Research) has forecast that air quality may dip over the weekend due to incursion of moisture and fall in inversion layer which will keep pollutants trapped near the surface.
The air quality index (AQI), at 310, was in the 'very poor' zone. However, the figure was lower than yesterday's 363.
