Pimpri Chinchwad: The residents of Bopkhel will meet district collector and municipal commissioner to seek clarity on the construction of an alternate road to their village.

Gulabrao Bhalerao, executive president, Bopkhel Gaon Rasta Sangharsha Samiti, said, "There is some confusion among the villagers about the exact status of the alternate road and when the permanent bridge will be constructed. To clear in the air on all these issues, we will meet the district collector and civic chief. Also, we want to know what the authorities are doing to provide the alternate road to Bopkhel and its present status."

The villagers had conducted a hunger strike in Pimpri in May 2017 where they received a written assurance that the permission from defence authorities will be obtained soon and construction work for the permanent bridge will start in 5 -6 months. When nothing concrete happened, the villagers resorted to another hunger strike near Pune district in October 2017.

"We will decide our future course of action then," he said.

Bopkhel is situated along Mula river and is surrounded by defence land on the three sides and the river on the fourth side. Earlier, it was linked to Pune-Mumbai highway at Dapodi through the 2.25km road through the defence land. But, it was closed in May 2015 on directives of the high court.
