PUNE: All shows of the Marathi film 'Dashkriya' till the afternoon on the day of its release on Friday were screened peacefully at theatres and multiplexes in Pune.

The Akhil Bharatiya Brahman Mahasangh has objected to the content of the film alleging that it had showed the community in a bad light and threatened to prevent the screening.

Theatres and multiplexes went on to screen the morning and afternoon shows with some taking police protection as a precaution. Meanwhile, members of the Brahmin organization staged a protest outside the Kibe Laxmi theatre (earlier Prabhat) in Appa Balwant Chowk on Friday evening.

Pushkaraj Chapalkar, director of City Pride, said, "We opened the bookings for the show eventually and all shows went off peacefully on Friday. We had intimated the police about the situation and if required would have called for security. The situation was calm on Friday."

The manager of Prabhat theatre, Sakharam Renuse, said, "We had requested for police bandobast on Friday. In the evening, some individuals came and raised slogans against the film. But, barring that, there was no untoward incident and the shows were screened as per schedule."

Patil, the director of the film, said, "The film was screened peacefully across the state except for one or two locations including Aurangabad and Nashik. But no major problems as far as running of the shows was concerned, took place."

"We went to protest against the film at the Prabhat theatre but there was police bandobast and they did not allow us to raise slogans. In 10 minutes they took us to the Faraskhana police station and released us in 30 minutes. Some of us, who are experts in the topics handled in the film, will watch it tomorrow and later a meeting has been organized in the evening to take a further call on this issue," city unit head of Akhil Bharatiya Brahman Mahasangh, Anand Dave, said.
