RAJKOT: Patidars are gearing up against chief minister Vijay Rupani in the latter's own backyard.
The Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) has opened an office near Indira Circle, located on the 150-feet Ring Road in Rajkot (west) — the constituency of Rupani — from where he is seeking reelection. All PAAS activities planned in Saurashtra will be managed by this office.
Rajkot district convener of PAAS Brajesh Patel said, "Our aim is to defeat the BJP and in Rajkot our sole aim is ensure Rupani's defeat on his home ground. We are planning to organize a mass rally in Rajkot at the end of this month." At least 2 lakh people are expected to attend the rally planned near Nana Mava Circle.
PAAS has also begun 'khatla parishad' (dialogue on cots) in Rupani's constituency. BJP has been winning this seat continuously since last nine terms, but PAAS has decided to approach voters and appeal to them not to vote for the party.
PAAS members said they will continue to organize 'khatla parishads' in all the Patidar-dominated societies till the voting day. As per a BJP insider's calculations, there are nearly 56,000 Patidar voters out of total 3 lakh in this constituency.
This office is centrally located and easily accessible for people coming from other parts of Saurashtra because of BRTS facility.
