Application sought Peter’s call records, accused him of framing her

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said it will not file any reply to Indrani Mukerjea’s letter seeking the call detail records (CDR) of her husband, Peter, in the Sheena Bora murder case.

CBI counsel Kavita Patil told the The Hindu, “We are not going to file any reply to Indrani’s application. The court has not directed us to file any reply. She has only written an application.”

Sources in the investigating agency said, “We are in the process of legally examining the application. Once it is done, we will take a call about what steps are to be taken ahead.”

On Wednesday, Indrani, accused of killing her daughter Sheena Bora, submitted a handwritten letter to special CBI judge J.C. Jagdale that read, “I believe Pritam (Peter Mukerjea) along with other persons [has] manipulated circumstances to frame me and [has] influenced witnesses, situations and information lead to my arrest on August 25, 2015, for a heinous crime that they may have committed, aided and abetted.”

Requesting anonymity, the lawyer appearing for one of the accused said, “I don’t know if we are going to file a reply, I am away. Most probably we will seek time.”

Indrani had sought for Peter’s CDR from January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2012, and January 1, 2015, to December 31, 2015.

Advocate Gunjan Mangla, appearing for Indrani, said, “If Peter doesn’t do anything about the application, we will press for an order from the court directing the nodal officer to produce the CDR. The records of 2015 will show who Peter was in touch with, as he was arrested in November while Indrani was arrested in August. Of the 2012 records, only those for April are relevant. The nodal officers have earlier said it is difficult to retrieve records of 2012, but we are hopeful that the 2015 records will reach us as they are relatively recent.”

Advocate Shreyansh Mithare, representing Indrani’s ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, also an accused lodged at Arthur Road jail, said, “We don’t require Peter Mukerjea’s CDR. It is of no importance to us because we don’t have any connection with him.”

On November 1, Indrani had written to Peter, detailing how to execute their financial separation smoothly. According to the CBI, the couple has allegedly siphoned off ₹900 crore through a layer of companies, and co-own a flat in Worli and two flats in Goa.
