THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health and Social Justice Minister K K Shailaja presented the Jayan Memorial Film-Media Award to journalist and editor of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Bhanu Prakash. The award was instituted jointly by Jayan Foundation, Kollam and Jayan Samskarika Samithi.
The award ceremony was held at the Press Club here. Veteran actor Madhu inaugurated the function. Minister Shailaja remembered Jayan as an actor who stole the hearts of Malayali audience through his adventerous acting style.

The minister also demanded an end to indiscriminate caricaturing of the actor who sacrificed his life during a film shoot. Madhu too endorsed the minister’s view and said it was high time that distasteful imitation of the actor was stopped.

Bhanuprakash was selected for the award for the  37 articles he wrote on the yesteryear actor. Actor Jose draped a ponnada over the journalist. Magician Gopinath Muthukad presented Bhanuprakash with a citation. Jayan’s nephew presented the author with a watch which was used by the actor. Actor and dubbing artist Aliyar and actor Maya Vishwanath also participated in the programme.
