The 6th edition the Heavy Caspian conference, organized by Heavy World Events and Media, was held on October 19th in Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan. This forum is the only one of its kind in Russia and the CIS and is a very significant event for the transport industry. Heavy Caspian 2017 is designed mainly for participants from the countries of Transcaucasia and Central Asia. This year the conference was organized in Tashkent for the first time, with previous editions having been held in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Heavy Caspian 2017 attracted the most important players on the oversized and project cargo transportation and installation market. Attendees included over 130 delegates from Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Georgia, Germany, England, Italy and Luxembourg.
AsstrA took an active part in this highly important conference. Irina Kaputa, a specialist from the AsstrA Associated Traffic AG Oversized and Heavy Cargo Division, shares her impressions of this event:
"Heavy Caspian 2017 stood out due to the huge amount of available information and great communication between participants. Uzbekistan is quite a closed country where most of the economic sectors are under strict state control, including the transportation and logistics industry. Officials from the state regulatory departments unveiled their vision for the development of the nation's oil and gas industry as well as for the practical organization of the transport industry in Uzbekistan.
The transport and logistics companies with real on-the-ground experience in Central Asia proper provided visual demonstrations of the various methods used to overcome the region's difficult geographical conditions and successfully deliver oversized and heavy cargo. The organizers managed to build an active dialogue between government representatives and the front-line transportation providers, as the exchange of their opinions really does have practical value."
Bahodirov Alisher, Head of Innovation and Localization at Uzbekneftegaz, the Uzbek national oil company, detailed the nation's oil and gas industry development priorities for 2017-2020. The government has decided to update Uzbek refinery equipment, which currently delivers a product of only average quality, and take new measures to improve quality as well as the depth at which the petroleum products are refined. The main delivery dates for new ovens, compression equipment, distillation columns, and other refinery equipment from Western Europe, Korea, Japan, India, South Africa and the USA are scheduled for between 2018-2022.
Due to the fact that many large-scale projects are planned in this region in the near future, the increased transparency and availability of information from government agencies served as an invitation for new service providers to participate in the development of the oil and gas industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
"The structure of the conference resembled blocks of information, with each speech concerning a specific topic. The time for discussion after each presentation was a great opportunity to assess how that particular issue plays out in the real world. The atmosphere at this exhibition was very friendly. Participants at Heavy Caspian 2017 were keen to exchange experiences and open to establishing business relationships. As the region of Central Asia is very interesting for us, we managed to establish contact with potential suppliers of logistics services in the region and to learn about the practical experiences of others, as described in their visual presentations," says Ms Kaputa.
At this moment, the Central Asian countries are actively developing resources already discovered under the Caspian Sea shelf. Demand for offshore drilling platform development projects is growing, as are requirements to strengthen the sea shelf bottom and to construct new refining facilities. AsstrA analysts predict that oil production and exploration technologies will be supplied by large companies in the oil and gas production industry as well as specialized oil refiners.
