Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas and San Diego County Supervisor Ron Roberts were both honored for their work championing the life sciences industry in their respective jurisdictions.

“Supervisor Ridley-Thomas’ vision to see the promise and opportunity that the life sciences industry provide the greater Los Angeles area has been remarkable,” said Dina Lozofsky, executive director of Biocom’s Los Angeles office. “He has consistently supported the industry and has been at Biocom’s side as we bring the industry together and strengthen the collaborative spirit of the LA Basin.”

“And there are few elected officials in San Diego who can legitimately say they served in elected office before biotech became a critical economic driver of our region,” added Joe Panetta, president and CEO of Biocom. “Supervisor Roberts is one of them, and he has supported local ordinances that spurred the growth of our world-renowned research-based biotech cluster.”

In addition to the awards, the annual dinner played host to honored speakers Scott Hamilton, the 1984 men’s Olympic figure skating gold medal winner who successfully survived cancer, and Karolyn Smith, U.S. Army veteran whose awe-inspiring courage and sheer audacity allowed her to overcome unimaginable odds.
