Roger Federer is playing so well… this is how I will try to beat him - David Goffin

DAVID GOFFIN admits he will have to raise his game if he wants to beat Roger Federer in the semi-final of the ATP World Tour Finals tomorrow.

Goffin easily brushed aside Dominic Thiem 6-4, 6-1 in the pair’s final round robin clash at London’s O2 Arena this afternoon.

Victory has set up a daunting clash with Federer, who is looking to win his eighth tournament this year.

Goffin is looking forward to the match but knows he has to turn it up a few notches if he wants to shock the Swiss legend.

"I played Roger Federer so many times and it's always a tough match," he told Sky Sports after beating Thiem.

I have nothing to lose, Roger Federer is playing so well but I will try and raise my level to try and win against him

“It's so nice to play a semi-final against him.

“I have nothing to lose, he is playing so well but I will try and raise my level to try and win against him."

Goffin admits he was nervous ahead of his game with good friend Thiem today but was delighted to get through it.

"It's never easy to play a friend and it was a little bit of a pity to play against Dominic for a semi-final spot as he's such a nice guy,” he added.

"I was really focused from the start until the end as I knew I had to stay calm and be ready for a tough battle.

“I’m really happy with how I managed the match. I was really nervous at the end of the match but I managed to win the second set.

"It was not easy because after the first match against Rafael (Nadal) I used so much energy that to come back against Grigor (Dimitrov) I was not ready for.

“I took a good rest yesterday and I was ready for today. I hope I can do the same in the semi-finals.”
