PANAJI: A US trade delegation that arrived in Goa on Friday, promised to support Goan startups while also offering support to improve the quality of education in the state. The delegation, which is part of the Ivanka Trump US delegation to India for an investment meet in Hyderabad, met with chief minister Manohar Parrikar and industry associations to promote trade ties.
Headed by Purnima Voria, national advisor to ex-US secretary of commerce, Penny Pritzker, the delegation also invited Goan industries to invest and trade with US firms.
"I think strategic partnership is the solution and I think both countries can become great again by having a very meaningful business partnership," Voria said. "There is interest from aerospace corporations that want to source components from India."
Voria is the founder and CEO of the National US India Chamber of Commerce (NUICC). She met with the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and ASSOCHAM to explore trade and investment opportunities with the US. On behalf of the trade delegation, Voria signed an agreement with GCCI to promote cooperation between companies and financial institutions of both countries.
"There were a lot of deliverables that the chief minister wanted but we thought we will zero in on three: IT, education and startups," Voria said when asked about her meeting with Parrikar.
She also promised to bring a defence trade delegation to Goa for DefExpo 2018.
