BEGUSARAI: Bhagalpur DIG Vikas Vaibhav on Thursday took part in a fortnight-long polythene-free awareness campaign launched by the Begusarai Municipal Corporation. He also distributed cloth bags among people and urged them not to use poly bags for carrying vegetables and other items.
"People should avoid the use of poly bags as they are harmful for the ecosystem and can also lead to serious diseases like cancer. Try switching to jute and cloth bags instead," the DIG, who is also in-charge of the Munger zone, said.
The DIG was accompanied by local businessmen, environmentalists and officials of the municipal corporation.
The civic body plans to ban the use of polythene bags in the town from December 1.
