A woman in labour gave birth to a male baby in an autorickshaw on the premises of the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) on Thursday.
Savitha, a resident of Sugar Town, experienced labour pain and was rushed to MIMS in an autorickshaw. Her husband went to the counter to complete the formalities, but there was a long queue.
As the pain became unbearable for Savitha, the doctors were alerted and they rushed to the spot. The paramedical staff tried to put her on a stretcher, so that she could be taken to the labour ward. But Savitha delivered the baby in the vehicle. She was then shifted to the ward. Both the mother and the baby are doing fine, doctors said.
