The Belgian was hailed by international boss Roberto Martinez, who said De Bruyne should be considered alongside the planet’s greatest talent.

The comments came in the wake of the midfielder’s brilliant start to the current Premier League campaign.

City are flying in the league with 10 wins and a draw from their opening 11 fixtures.

And De Bruyne has played an instrumental role, scoring three goals and assisting nine others.

However the 26-year-old has no interest in being compared to recent Ballon d'Or winners Messi or Ronaldo, and is more focussed on winning trophies with City.

“I don't care. I really don't care,” De Bruyne told Sky Sports News

“People compare too many players with each other, you have too many good players in the world.

“In the end, I will only win individual awards if I win something with City.

“I try to play the way I am playing at the moment and obviously the way we are playing is very positive and for us it's nice.

“Everybody is in the same spirit. We want to play the football that we play.'

The former Chelsea player was included on the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d'Or and has been tipped as a potential contender to win the prize either this year or in 2018.

Manchester City travel to Leicester on Saturday as Pep Guardiola’s men look to continue their unbeaten start.
