Surat: The Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum (CDRF) has ordered a patient to pay Rs 5,000 to the city-based doctor for late filing of the case related to his medical condition.
As per details, Manu Kachad, a resident of Parvat Patia had consulted orthopadic surgeon Dr Vasant Panchal for the constant pain in his leg in 2011. However, the doctor had given an injection to relieve the pain. Later the patient went to a private hospital in Mumbai where he had undergone surgery due to the infection in his leg.
After seven years, the patient approached the CDRF alleging medical irregularity by the doctor and demanded a compensation of Rs 18 lakh.
Dr Vinesh Shah, a medico legal expert, who appeared in the court on behalf of the doctor said that the case is non-relavent due to the long time gap and that it should be dismissed.
"The patient was given injection in 2011, he developed infection and had to be operated in Mumbai hospital. After seven years, the patient filed a case against the doctor asking for compensation. There is a time limit within which the consumer can approach the court and this case was not fit for admission" said Dr Shah.
