If that sounds confusing, maybe it's because it seems someone thinks you can never have enough James Francos on screen.

The Hollywood star will be playing a character who can constantly duplicate and replicate himself.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news today that Franco is lining up to star in and produce a big screen adaptation of one of Marvel's lesser-known heroes.

Is the world ready for James Franco as Multiple Man?

The Hollywood Reporter said: “James Franco may be the next star to join Fox's X-Men universe.

“The multi-hyphenate is negotiations to play Multiple Man in a stand-alone being developed by X-Men producer Simon Kinberg, godfather of Fox's universe based on the Marvel mutants.

“Allan Heinberg, one of the writers behind Warner Bros' Wonder Woman, is set to pen the feature. Kinberg would produce under his Genre Films label, along with Franco and his Ramona Films.”

Who is Multiple Man and haven’t we already seen him before in one of the X-men movies?

Eric Dane playing him in a small supporting role in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand but Jamie Madrox, also known as Multiple Man, had his own series of comics.

The character immediately displayed his cloning powers at birth, after an identical version of the baby materialised when the doctor slapped him to get him to breathe. X-Men leader Professor X designed the infant a special suit to control his constant reflex urge to clone himself.

It's easy to see why Franco would be an attractive choice to play this particular character.

His incredible abilities gave the comicbooks endless possibilities to play out storyines where he (or versions of himself) could be hero or villain. In the source materials, Madrox has both helped and hindered the X-Men and Fantastic Four.

His personality and the casting of Franco indicate Fox is probably aiming to replicate the success of Deadpool, with its jokier and irreverent style.

Multiple Man first appeared in 1975's Giant-Size Fantastic Four No4 and was created by the late Len Wein, the comic book mind behind classic characters such as Wolverine.
