SURAT: Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee president Sachin Pilot has blamed chief minister Vasundhara Raje for her apathy in resolving the row over Padmavadi movie in his state.
The state government has kept silence on the controversy over the film for the past 10 months so as to allow the agitation to spread in the country, he alleged.
Pilot, who visited the Diamond City on Thursday, blamed the Centre and the Rajasthan government for failing to find a solution to the demands of Karni Sena, which is upset with the film.
"The row is raging for the last 10 months. The Vasundhara Raje government is not interested. The Centre, Rajasthan government and the censor board are to be blamed for the flare-up of the agitation against Padmavati film across the nation. The BJP always tries to gain benefit out of tension. Home minister promised to constitute a committee, but has failed to do so," Pilot said.
The Congress leader said Surat is the economic capital of Gujarat. The economic slowdown, demonetisation and the Goods and Service Tax (GST) have rendered 25,000 workers jobless in the textile sector.
"I have received representation from Rajasthani samaj here over the situation in the textile sector. Believe me, Rajasthan is going for polls in November 2018 and Congress will form the government with absolute majority," he said.
About his party's prospects in Gujarat, Pilot said, "We don't claim 150 plus seats, but would like to say that Congress will form the government with comfortable majority. The undercurrent is strong this time and we feel people will shower their blessings on us. BJP is afraid of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. There are 12 dozen central ministers in Gujarat to counter Rahul."
BJP must come out with a white paper on their failed promises made in the election manifesto for Lok Sabha elections in 2014. How many people in the country had received Rs 15 lakh in their bank accounts, got employment out of the promised jobs to 2 crore youths, your action on Article 370 and black money etc? Pilot asked.
"Terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has swelled in the last one year only due to demonetisation. BJP forgot its principal demand with regard to Article 370 and joined hands with PDP to get deputy chief minister's post. The by-election for a Lok Sabha seat in the state is yet to take place due to tension in the valley," Pilot said.
On PAAS leader Hardik Patel's sex CDs, Pilot said, "Hardik has given a befitting reply on the issue. It is in the DNA of BJP to launch personal attacks on those who it believes are a threat to it."
Some Rajasthani youths confronted Pilot during his campaigning in Kailashnagar. They displayed placards asking what Congress has done for the people there. A few even took out their shirts and threw leaflets opposing Pilot's visit.
