A Pondicherry University student was allegedly sexually harassed by a group of unknown people within the University campus on Wednesday.

The student from Odisha, who wished to remain anonymous, was apparently standing outside the hostel building when a group of four men approached him and abducted him to a remote part of the campus, according to one of his hostel mates. Here, the group snatched the victim's phone and asked him to withdraw 5000 rupees in cash and hand it over. The terrified student said he didn't have the money. At this point, the kidnappers allegedly removed their pants and started to force the student to perform oral sex on them by holding a knife to his throat.

All of this was also allegedly being captured on a phone camera. The student then begged the men to let him go and promised them that he would give them the money. He convinced them that he had the money in his hostel room and told them he would bring the money to them immediately. The four men then took the student all the way to the hostel and waited for him to come back. The student seized the opportunity to tell others in the hostel about the incident.

The other students at the hostel then confronted the abductors, who rushed out after they got into a fight. The incident has shaken him so much that the victim is also considering dropping out of the course because of the incident and is telling his friends that he feels it is better if he goes back home.

The victim is confident that the abductors were not from the University which leads to the question of how they even got into campus. The student has filed an FIR with the Kalapet Police stating that some men attempted to rob him at knifepoint but since he is traumatised by the whole incident he did not want to add a sexual harassment complaint to the pile.

However, the friend of the victim posted about the incident on Facebook, "He does not want to talk about the incident or reveal his identity in public. He did not want to file a complaint on those grounds either because he's scared. He's worried that the guys might come back and also about the response he might receive if he reveals himself. He's a postgraduate student and is only a few months old on campus," Prabha Bharathi, a PhD student said.

Students pointed out that there was no security at the hostel at the time of the incident Vignesh M, Vice President of the Pondicherry University Student Council said, "If there had been security at the time of the incident then it might not have even happened. We have spoken to the Registrar and warden and told them about this fact. We have requested that security is increased on campus to ensure that only students are allowed inside. they have said they will take necessary steps to prevent such things from happening in the future," he said.

Puducherry Lt Gov Kiran Bedi has always taken an acive interest in student welfare at PU and students are hopeful that she will help bring the perps to light.
