‘Manner in which my son’s throat was slit shows the crime was chilling, horrific...’

The father of the murdered seven-year-old student of Ryan International School in Bhondsi moved the Juvenile Justice Board here on Wednesday seeking trial of the juvenile as an adult. The matter will come up for hearing on November 22.

Moving an application through his counsel Sushil K. Tekriwal and others, the victim’s father argued that the manner in which his son’s throat was slit showed that the crime was “chilling, horrific and serious” in nature.

Amended act

The application said the juvenile in conflict with law is over 16 years of age and should be tried as an adult as per the mandate, warrant and spirit of the amendment carried out in the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, with effect from January 15, 2016.

The father pointed out in his application that his son’s post-mortem report indicated the nature of injuries were very serious and thus the crime committed by the juvenile was heinous and gruesome in nature without a doubt.

Three months

The father also demanded that proceedings pertaining to the present application be concluded within three months from the date of first production of the juvenile before the Board as per the Act.

He added that the court might call for the social background report, social investigation report, and physical and mental drug assessment report regarding the juvenile for just and fair adjudication of his application and form its opinion.

The juvenile will also be produced before the Board on November 22, after his judicial custody ends. He is lodged in an observation home in Faridabad.
