Astroturf | Cleanliness of mind and environment

Taking cue from the previous issue, it becomes incumbent upon us to gather up all our strengths as would be called for by varying energy dynamics of nature.  With a raised work spirit thus, we shall be able to successfully work upon opportunities likely to unfold in emerging times, and also intelligently take on the challenges on the way, with ease and comfort.  It is in this spirit that the devout submit to a prayer mode with intense emotion, seeking boons from Mother Goddess.  If we could remain focused single pointed to our creative urges in the same spirit, there is no reason why fruits shall not be forthcoming.

It becomes all the more important to organize ourselves afresh at this point of time.  For, following Deepawali, the Sun begins moving towards its zenith, the Eastern horizon, every successive day presenting itself with raised energy level.  It thus rekindles our energy base afresh, arming us with the vitals needed to take on the journey of life in all strength.  Moon, too, having recharged itself having being in unison with the Sun, begins waxing, raising new hopes. It is as if nature wishes to close its account for a periodic stock taking and in accordance with that reinvent the next productive cycle.  It is not a sheer coincidence that a new productivity cycle takes off at this point of time.  Paddy and other seasonal crops are in full bloom, ready to be harvested soon, which will be followed by the next crop season.  Again rainy season having come to its end, other construction activities take off in full bloom.

In astrological parlance, the Sun is identified with individuality, the potential side; and Moon with personality — the performing self.  The two have to evidently move in tandem with each other to be at one’s best.  In real terms, nature holds in its womb the potential side, which when suitably worked upon by human beings shall be able to take care of our existential needs.  That further exemplifies the importance of this festivity.  So, Deepawali offers an occasion to figure out our potentials and resources in hand, and accordingly set the course of our Karma to earnestly work towards a fulfilling experience.

No wonder, the whole of India, takes on the darkest night of the year in a celebratory mode.  Houses are decked up with flowers, festoons, and other decorative articles.  The darkness of night sky is dispelled by lighting our houses heavily with earthen lamps/candles/ set in a decorative fashion.  At the dead of night offerings are made first to the Lord Ganapati, the deity personified with worldly wisdom.  It ends with offerings to Mother Goddess Laksmi, the principal deity of the day, carrying the hope that with emergence of fresh light, life begins with a new note, which may prove rewarding and fulfilling.

The preparation for this festivity begins much in advance.  For, we thoroughly clean up our houses, work station, and the adjoining areas.  We clear off all the junk piled up during the previous year.  We refurbish and give a fresh look to our houses.  We, thus, create a healthy living environment carrying a positive ambience.  It is driven by the belief that Mother Goddess Laxmi shuns filth and would make presence only in a clean environment.  So, great emphasis is laid on cleanliness, vital to health, hygiene, and a positive work atmosphere.  Once the festival gets over, our obligations towards keeping our cities and villages clean, seems to take a back seat in our consciousness.  Otherwise, Modiji would not have felt the need to initiate a massive clean India campaign.

Even more important is the cleansing of mind on a daily basis.  Remember, all that we encounter in life, good or bad, finds space with our memory, major part of which gets into our subconscious.  Over a period of time, the mind gets too cluttered with the baggage of inconsequential and even negative thoughts, thus restricting the mind-space available to us.  We are, thus, not left with the space necessary to process our thoughts objectively.  These thoughts also keep rattling us from within, not allowing us to remain focused on our priority preferences.  So, submitting to prayer regime becomes all the more important in order to keep our minds in shape.

The festive calendar of the year will close up with the Chath Puja to follow six days after. Offerings shall be made to the prime energy provider the Sun, first when setting, and then to the rising Sun the next morning, acknowledging Sun’s relevance all through its run.
