Expert's BRILLIANT reason why setting a Brexit date in stone will give UK UPPER HAND

THINK THANK boss Dr Richard Wellings slammed Labour’s plot to vote down a date for Brexit as he insisted it will work in the UK's favour.

The Deputy Director for the Institute of Economic Affairs insisted that setting a date on Brexit will stop the EU from trying to prolong Britain's membership in the

Theresa May vowed to amend the EU Withdrawal Bill so that Britain will pledge to Brexit at 11pm on March 29, 2019.

Appearing on , Mr Wellings said: “I think if you don’t set a date in stone then that gives the EU massive incentives to try and drag out the process for as long as possible and reach some sort of fake Brexit that doesn’t really deliver the full economic benefits. 

“I think really it's important to have a cut-off point to try and pressurise the EU to get a move on.”

The said they would vote against Theresa May’s amendment and branded it as a “gimmick”. 

At least 15 Tory rebel MPs have also announced their intentions to vote with Labour against enshrining an exit date into law.

Dr Wellings claimed the bulk of those trying to vote down on the Brexit date is “hardcore Remainers”. 

He said: “One of the Remain campaigns key strategies to undermine Brexit is to drag it out as long as possible so that the chances of it being reversed increase. 

“Or if they can perhaps settle for some kind of fake Brexit in which you’ll get all the EU regulations but in name its Brexit but you don’t really get the full business.”

During PMQs on Wednesday, insisted Britain will leave the Brussels bloc on the set exit date and asked for MPs to come to together to deliver Brexit. 

She said: “We will be leaving the European Union on March 29, 2019. There is, of course, a lively debate going on in this place and that is right and proper. 

“What we are doing as a Government is listening to the contributions that are being made, listening carefully to those who wish to improve the bill, and I hope that we can all come together to deliver on the decision that the country took that we should leave the European Union.”
