Govt to constitute panel to revive Rispana river

A committee of experts and those working in the field will be set up for the revival of the Rispana river.

In the next 10 days, an action plan will be made by the Eco Task Force with the Forest Research Institute, National Institute of Hydrology, Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority, district administration, Irrigation Department, Jal Sansthan and other institutions.

Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh chaired a meeting with officials at the secretariat in this regard on Wednesday.

He stressed that this important task should be carried out with public involvement. The support of the media, schools, religious and social organisations should also be taken in this. A plan should be drafted for the plantation of one crore tree saplings in one day. He directed the district magistrate that execution of the Rispana river revival plan, the municipal corporation of Dehradun should undertake a cleaning campaign. The MDDA should effectively clamp down on illegal construction works being carried out in the river area. Colonel HRS Rana of the Eco Task Force stressed on the importance of a zero-discharge policy, zero garbage dumping, check dam, pisciculture and public awareness. Abhijay Negi of Making a Difference by being the Difference (MAD) spoke of the report of the NIH, Roorkee and also assured active involvement of the student activist group in this initiative. NIH scientist RP Pande made a presentation on the development of water management and intervention.

A detailed project report should be made for this and evaluated after implementation of the plan.
