The world No.2 had a day off yesterday but faces Marin Cilic this afternoon in his final group game having already qualified for the semi-finals.
Federer says he could have done with more sleep but is feeling refreshed despite the late night.
“I would have liked to have slept longer because I went to bed at 3.30am,” he said ahead of his match with Cilic.
“So it was a quiet day. I caught up with friends and family in the city.

“I didn’t go and hit. I had a day off and enjoyed it. It was refreshing.
“I feel really good today so I should find the rhythm quickly.”
Federer has already beaten Jack Sock and Alexander Zverez this week and will play in Saturday’s semi-finals regardless of what happens today against Cilic.
Federer beat Cilic in the Wimbledon final earlier this year but admits this match has a different feel to it.
He added: “It’s a different pressure to Wimbledon, that’s for sure. When we played against each other.
“I just really want to get through these group stages with confidence. The last match is always really important to me moving forwards. So I will give it all I’ve got.
“I will try to play more aggressively than I did against Zverev. It all depends on how Marin plays me.”
