Arsenal news: Arsene Wenger admits he could leave Gunners at end of season

ARSENE WENGER has admitted he could leave Arsenal before his contract is up - if the board decide he is no longer the right man for the job.

Arsene Wenger penned a new two-year deal with Arsenal in the summer, keeping him at the Emirates until at least the 2018/19 season.

However, he has admitted he could leave the north London club sooner, regardless of whether he wants to honour his contract or not.

The Frenchman has revealed he will sit down with the board at the end of the current campaign to determine his future which could result in a parting of ways.

"I said I sit down with the board every end of season and see where we go from there - so that's not exactly the same,” he told French outlet BeIN Sports.

Arsene Wenger harbours ambitions to manage at international level

"That's as well sometimes you know, you make a sentence and people turn it the way they would like to see it.

"That's what I said - I have a two-year contract, I will always try to go to the end of my contract.

“But always have the honesty to sit down with the board and see where we go from there. So that's quite simple."

If Wenger and Arsenal were to part ways in the summer the Frenchman has already admitted he would not call time on his managerial career.

And the 68-year-old has admitted the prospect of moving into international football and being involved in the 2022 World Cup attracts him.

“Maybe, yes, I will do it at some stage but until now I like to be involved every day in the life of a club because the real test is there,” he said.

“But I will not always have the physical strength to do that so maybe I will move into [international coaching].”

When asked whether he could be in the dugout at the World Cup in Qatar, he added: “Maybe, you never know.”
