THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Under Narendra Modi’s rule, fascism has gained upper hand over democracy in the country, KPCC president M M Hassan said on Tuesday. “The difference between Jawaharlal Nehru and Narendra Modi is the distance from democracy to fascism,” he said, while inaugurating the 129th birthday meet of the first Prime Minister, held at the KPCC headquarters here.

“Communalism pursued by a ruling government is the contribution of Narendra Modi. His attempt is to crush the legacy and cultural fabric of the country by fomenting communal hatred and destroying secularism,” Hassan said. “All the dictators have the same voice and would embrace communalism to realise their goals. Modi became the prime minister by harping the same words of Adolf Hitler when the latter took over the reins of Germany, promising good days,” he said.

Hassan said the Narendra Modi Government had also led the country’s economy into total disarray. “India has fallen into a recession now, out of mental retardation of the rulers. The Congress leadership, right from the days of Nehru, had taken a planned course to ensure the country’s development and economic growth. Modi abolished the Planning Commission and came up with the Niti Aayog. People have realised the absence of Planning Commission now,” he said.

Congress leaders and activists offered floral tributes to the portrait of Nehru. KPCC general secretary Thampanoor Ravi welcomed the gathering.
