An assistant head constable attached to the City Armed Reserve (CAR) has been suspended for collecting groundnut from vendors at Kadalekai Parishe which concluded on Wednesday.

A video of the constable, S P Mandakki, going around with a plastic bag collecting groundnuts from vendors has gone viral, embarrassing the police top brass. An enquiry was ordered, after which the DCP (CAR), B G Timmannavar, suspended the constable who was deputed for security duty during the Parishe on November 13.

In the footage, Mandakki is seen carrying a plastic bag and demanding vendors to fill it with groundnuts while people walking by notice him and make comments. One of them recorded a video on his mobile phone and uploaded it to social media. Senior police officials took cognisance of the video after it went viral and ordered an enquiry. Timmannavar found Mandakki guilty and suspended him until further notice on the charge of dereliction of duty.
