Nine Osmania University students detained for creating ruckus on campus

HYDERABAD: Tension prevailed at Arts college in Osmania University campus here on Tuesday after ABVP students union tried to organise a public meeting inviting a spiritual leader, Brahmashri Patriji to hold a mass meditation event.It can be noted that the incident comes after the management of the varsity gave strict orders not to hold any kind of public gatherings or meetings in the campus.

Though the public meeting was stopped after left wing, Dalit, and BC’s students union protested the legitimacy of the meeting, ABVP members, however, argued that a permission was granted by the principal.When the matter was taken to the principal’s office, the office maintained that no such permission was granted.

The irked students then damaged furniture in the office premises. “We have not given any permission and neither did they approach us for any such permission. They have misguided to take the consent of the principal for the meeting,” said Gopal Reddy, Sub-registrar, OU. Police said that there were nine students detained based on a complaint by the principal. “We have taken nine students into detention for creating violence at the campus. Investigation is still on,” said Ashok, CI, OU police station.

Woman held for duping retd jailer
A 50-year-old notorious cheat, who had duped several job aspirants and businessmen on the pretext of helping them earn good profits in meat business, was apprehended by Rachakonda police on Tuesday. She had been held in the past for cheating several nurses in Saifabad area of the city on the promise of finding them jobs in Dubai. She had been on the run since 2008, police said. The woman, Tatiparti Sheeba Rani (50), is a resident of Yapral and daughter of an ex-serviceman. After her marriage to a bike mechanic of Warangal, she worked in homes for the aged and orphans. 

School bus mows down biker
A speeding school bus mowed down a biker at Hayathnagar on Tuesday. The biker identified as S Sudarshan Reddy, was heading home at Vanasthalipuram on a bike, when the speeding bus belonging to Navya Jyoti school rammed the bike. Critically injured Reddy died on the spot. 

Lorry runs over youth killing him
A 23-year-old man who returned to city after completion of postgraduation in Australia, died in a road accident at Rajendranagar on Tuesday. The deceased identified as Barmar, was heading towards Attapur from a dairy farm area, when he lost control over the bike and fell down. A lorry moving in the same direction ran over his head. Barmar died on the spot.

Auto driver arrested for burglary
An auto driver who stole property worth `23.10 lakh, including a gold pen, from four houses has been arrested by Jubilee Hills police. Police recovered 580 grams of gold, 157 grams of silver articles and the gold pen from him. The accused along with stolen property has been produced in the court for judicial remand, said the police. 

Two held for stealing shirts worth `10 lakh
Two persons from Anantapur, who had stolen shirts worth `10 lakh from Vintage Fab Care Company at Kushaiguda, have been arrested by on Tuesday. Police recovered 1,828 stolen shirts. E Naveen and his friend Mala Vinod, both natives of Anantapur district, were working at Vintage Fab Care owned by one P Sunettth at Kushaiguda. The vendors would give the new shirts and pants to the Vintage Fab Care company for washing, after which they would be handed over to the companies concerned. On the intervening night of October 18 and 19, accused Naveen and Vinod stole six bags full of shirts and fled. Based on complaint by Suneeth, the acccused were apprehended at their house on Tuesday.
