The Congress party has charged the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in the State as being ‘oppressive’ towards the Opposition.
It has termed the yesterday’s incident in the protest meeting on demonetization at Gudhiyari in the city as ‘shameful for democracy’.
In a joint press conference here on Thursday senior Congress leaders Satyanarayan Sharma, Dhanendra Sahu, Kiranmayi Nayak and party’s Raipur District Unit President Vikas Upadhyay stated that incident of stone pelting in the public meeting of Congress party in presence of police administration testifies ‘misuse’ of power by the Government.
Speaking to media persons Satyanarayan Sharma alleged that in a well-planned conspiracy the BJP workers attacked the Congress party workers.
“They (BJP workers) threw stones from the top of the buildings in a well planned manner”, he said.
Former State Congress President, Dhanendra Sahu said : “we as a part of democracy had convened the public meeting to oppose the government’s policy but the way the BJP workers attacked us shows the suppression of Opposition by the ruling party.”
