PANAJI: Many citizens may still see having to visit a police station as troublesome. And Goa police tried to reinvent itself two years ago by relaunching its website and by introducing two Goa police apps. But the services being offered online were limited. Goa police are now carrying out trial runs of an all-new website, which is set to completely transform the citizen-police interaction.

If all goes well, Goans will soon be able to register a complaint or report a crime from their homes, and they will even be able to track the status of these complaints online. Even first information reports (FIRs) filed under different police stations are up for viewing on the website.

Superintendent of police Karthik Kashyap said that currently, this project is at the trial stage.

From missing persons and children, most wanted criminals and proclaimed offenders, abandoned or unclaimed properties, and vehicles stolen or involved in crimes, it will all be available on the new Goa police website for citizens to access.

"The new website is still in the trial stage. Once all goes well with the testing and all services on the website was functional, a user can create his/her account with the website and will be able to access a number of the services online," superintendent of police Karthik Kashyap, who heads Goa police department's cyber cell, told TOI.

The website will enable submission of Right to Information (RTI) applications online and will offer services like police verification certificate, employee verification, tenant vertification, servant vertification.

Citizens will also be able to track missing and lost items, request for case documents and register a grievance without having to make constant visits to the police station.

Even forms for extension of visa by foreign nationals residing in Goa, certificate of registration for foreigners visiting India, and vertification of employee, tenant or servant can now be downloaded at the click of the mouse.

The website will also provide detailed safety tips for women and tourists, and measures for citizens to keep safe from thefts at ATMs and cyber and credit/debit card frauds.
