Coimbatore: A 33-year-old construction worker was injured in a wild elephant attack at Vadavalli here on Wednesday morning. The victim, Suresh Kumar, of Edappadi in Salem district, was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital. His condition is said to be stable.
The elephant and its 4-year-old calf strayed into Vadavalli on Wednesday around 7am. A video shot by a resident shows the elephants roaming in the area for about 30 minutes.
Scared, residents shut themselves inside the house and alerted forest officials.
Meanwhile, Suresh Kumar, who was working at a construction site of a private hospital, went to a nearby pasture to relieve himself. There, the elephant tossed him in the air. He suffered head injuries and fell unconscious. The elephants, however, returned to the forest before forest officials reached the spot.
