If the reports in the Spanish media are to be believed, Cristiano Ronaldo made a secret phone call to Lionel Messi after finding out that he is the winner of this year’s Ballon D’Or. According to a report by Don Balon, the Real Madrid striker called Messi to tell him that he has been informed that he will win the trophy.

The report says that the phone call was made after an image of front-cover of the magazine, which runs the awards ceremony, featuring Messi with the award, started circulating on social media. Ronaldo, who also won 2017 FIFA’s best player award in October, will have his fifth Ballon D’Or trophy, and tie up with Messi, in case the reports turned out to be true. The award ceremony will take place on December 7.

Reports further added that the Portuguese Captain was congratulated on his victory by Messi.

In August, Ronaldo had also won the UEFA Player of the year award for his performance in the 2016-17 European competition. The Real Madrid No. 7 scored twice in UEFA Champions League final against Juventus, taking his final tally to 12 goals in the tournament. But things have turned for Ronaldo, this year, as the Portuguese forward started 2017-18 campaign on the wrong foot.

Ronaldo is currently struggling to score goals in La Liga competition as his side is currently eight points behind the table-toppers Barcelona. The former Manchester United man was banned for five matches, after he “pushed” a referee on receiving the red card, at the start of the season. Meanwhile, Messi has looked in fine touch, with the Argentinian already scoring 12 goals in 11 appearances in La Liga, and 3 goals in 4 UEFA Champions League matches.
