Rail bridge work sparks snarls, residents suffer

GURUGRAM: Residents from parts of new Gurgaon adjacent to Choma Crossing and Sarai Crossing have complained that they have to endure long traffic hauls at least twice daily. Residents told TOI that owing to the the construction of a rail overbridge in Bajghera, these two crossings were the only two links that connect new sectors with the rest of the city.

"The construction of the rail overbride has been going on for over 15 months now," said Yashesh Yadav, a resident of Mahindra Aura Society in New Palam Vihar. "So until the bridge is complete, our only gateways to the rest of Gurgaon city are these two crossings. The new Gurgaon sectors, especially Sector 110, 111, 108 and 115, are the worst affected."

Residents said the population in new Gurgaon is increasing exponentially. "Every year, thousands of new residents come to these sectors. They work in Delhi or Gurgaon, so the traffic flow through these two crossings is always more than they were built for," said Jyoti Singh, a resident of Sector 110.

When TOI spoke to Huda administrator Yashpal Yadav over the phone, he said that "Huda does not have jurisdiction over the railways and even if we wished to widen the road. We couldn't have done that either because these roads come under the PWD, not us. The bridge is being constructed by the PWD itself."
