A girl student today petitioned the district collector alleging that she was fined Rs 300 by her school for speaking in Tamil.

The 9th grade student, who came to the collectorate here with her father, sought the intervention of collector TN Hariharan in the matter.

In her petition, the student alleged that the private school in Chettipalayam on the city outskirts levied a fine of minimum Rs 300 if the students were found speaking in Tamil.

Besides, the school management forced the students to clean toilets, she said.

The management also demanded Rs 15,000 for issuing Transfer Certificates, she alleged.
