VELLORE: A class IX schoolboy, who was on his way to school, was allegedly kidnapped by two unidentified men and burnt alive on Tuesday morning in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu.

The boy, M Govindhan, a resident of Thathanavaasal at Tirupattur, sustained nearly 50 per cent burns and was admitted to a nearby government hospital.

Local sources said that this morning he was cycling to his school located at Vengalapuram when two men believed to have taken him forcibly to a mango farm nearby and poured petrol on him and set him ablaze. On hearing his screams, the villagers came to the rescue and took him to a nearby government hospital.

The police officials are tight-lipped about the incident.
