Vodafone has brought two new prepaid plans worth Rs 458 and Rs 509 with unlimited calling benefits and 1GB 4G/3G data every day to get an upper hand in the ongoing price war in Indian telecom sector. The former plan comes with a validity of 70 days, whereas the latter has a validity of 84 days. This is similar to what the telecom disruptor Reliance Jio offers.
The Rs 509 plan from Vodafone offers unlimited local and STD calls on any network, but with a cap of 250 minutes a day and 1000 minutes a week. The unlimited calling benefits will remain unchanged even while roaming within India. The plan comes bundled with 100 free SMSes for every day. The Rs 509 plan offers 1GB FUP limit of 4G or 3G data for 84 days. That means users will get internet connection at reduced speeds after exhausting the 1GB limit.
Meanwhile, the Rs 458 prepaid plans also offers unlimited calling benefits with the same limits of 250 minutes per day and 1000 minutes per week as the Rs 509 plan. This plan too offers unlimited local and national calls on any number and unlimited national roaming. This plan also comes with 1GB fair usage limit for 70 days. The Rs 459 plans also offers free 100 SMSes daily.
Both plans come with free subscription of Vodafone Play application and are available only for prepaid users.
Although these plans are meant to one-up similar plans by Reliance Jio, the disruptor is offering similar benefits for the lower prices. The Mukesh Ambani-backed Jio is offering the same benefits as the Rs 458 Vodafone plan for Rs 399, whereas its Rs 459 plan has same benefits as the Rs 509 Vodafone plan. Vodafone users have one benefit that they can access 3G network in absence of 4G connectivity, whereas Reliance Jio works on 4G network exclusively.
