Singapore Airlines has undergone a $850 million facelift, resulting in their best ever business class seat offering.

The new cabins will be fitted in the airline's Airbus A38 fleet from next month.

They will contain 471 seats in total: six Singapore Airlines Suites, 78 business class seats, 44 premium economy seats and 343 economy class seats. 

Passengers in both first class and business class will now have the option of double beds. 

For the solo traveller, the business class seat, which measures 25 inches, reclines into a 78 inch full flat bed.

However if a couple sitting next to each other in the middle of the plane would like to share, the centre divider can be fully lowered to form a full flat bed. 

The seat also comes with USB ports, reading lights, mood lights and an enlarged dining table which can be customised to different seating positions. 

There is also ample storage space below the seats, to accommodate both a full sized cabin bag and a smaller handbag or laptop bag.

Flyers are provided with over ear headsets and an 18inch high definition touch screen monitor to tune into the onboard entertainment system throughout the flight.

The business class seats themselves are covered in leather and feature an understated purple and burnt orange colour palette. 

They stretch out into a "sun deck" position to allow flyers to recline while they watch videos. 

They were designed by UK company JPA Design and manufactured for Singapore Airlines by JAMCO Corporation of Japan. 

However, Singapore Airlines aren't the first in the market to roll out double beds in business class.

This accolade goes to Quatar Airlines who rolled out double beds back in September as part of the Qsuite on its Boeing 777 planes.

The Qsuite features a fully reclinable double bed which, like Singapore Airlines, has removable partition panels.

Families are also enabled to open their individual cabin spaces into a four person area.
