Woman commits suicide as intruder enters house, molests her

JAISALMER: A person entered the house of a married woman and tried to molest her on Sunday night at Khetolai village under Lathi police station area in Jaisalmer district. On getting information about the incident the villagers gathered there and beat up the intruder. However, the woman fearing social boycott consumed poison and jumped into a water tank and committed suicide.

Police took out the body and after post-mortem handed it over to the family members. Police have lodged a case under section 306 against the culprit for provoking the woman to commit suicide. The case was lodged by the father-in-law of the deceased. The husband of the deceased is in Army at Vishakapatnam.

Officer at Lathi police station Mohan Lal said Lakshmi Vishnoi committed suicide as she was scared of being defamed when the villagers caught the intruder molesting the woman and handed him over to the police. Police are investigating the case from various angles.

He said Kisna Ram, father-in-law of the deceased lodged a report in which he said that his son is deployed in the Army and is posted in Andhra Pradesh. For some time Naresh Kumar Vishnoi, resident of Nokhada was harassing Lakshmi and was sending her vulgar messages.


On Sunday night when he found that Lakshmi was alone Naresh entered the house and started molesting her. When Lakshmi screamed nearby villagers gathered and caught Naresh. The police officer said Lakshmi (28) scared of being defamed consumed some poisonous substance and committed suicide by jumping into a water tank. Kisna Ram alleged that Naresh forced his daughter-in-law to commit suicide.


Police, based on report lodged cases under section 306 and started investigation. The post-mortem report says that woman died of drowning while her father-in-law said that she consumed poison.


This will be clarified after the FSL report. Naresh was injured in the beating and was treated and has been arrested under section 151. Police are investigating the case. The woman has been married to Mahesh Vishnoi for 10 years and is survived by two children.
