Indian hip-hop star Hard Kaur bagged the Europe Music Awards (EMA) for Best India Act for her single, All Stars Anthem, yesterday. In an exclusive interview to mid-day, she says that with the win, she has finally got the recognition that was long due. "It feels fantastic to win this award because it shows that if you believe in yourself and work hard, anything is possible. After pushing as hard as I have for more than two decades, the award feels deserving," says the Glassy singer.

Kaur reveals that the journey of the song from the recording studio to its release was challenging, with music labels refusing to fund the track. "Many music companies refused to support me because there's a misconception about my capability. I had to fund it from my pocket." She stood vindicated when the song from the album, The Rising Mixtape, became a chartbuster. "It released on my label, Future Records, and went to No 1 on iTunes the day it released."

Kaur reveals that she was asleep at her UK home when congratulatory messages started pouring in. "I woke my mom up and hugged her," says Kaur, adding that she didn't expect to scoop the gong. "I've never received an award from the Indian music industry. My award has always been the love I receive from my fans."
