NEW DELHI: India has pledged to work with members of East Asia Summit to address political, security and economic issues of the region as the EAS adopted declarations on ‘Countering the Spread of Terrorist Narratives, Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism and Poverty Alleviation’, echoing Delhi’s long-standing views.

In his 10-minute closed door address at the 12th East Asia Summit, PM Narendra Modi said he looks forward to the Summit “attaining greater salience” in years to come.

“We look forward to the East Asia Summit attaining greater salience in years to come. I reiterate my commitment to work with you to address the political, security and economic issues of the region,” the PM said in the presence of 17 other leaders.

According to MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar, Modi told the gathering that as a bloc, the regional grouping ASEAN has emerged as a “beacon of hope”. “Asean began in times of a great global divide, but today as it celebrates its golden jubilee, it shines as a beacon of hope; a symbol of peace and prosperity,” Modi told the gathering.
