It was a close shave for controversial BJP leader Sakshi Maharaj today as his car met with an accident while he was travelling from Delhi to Etah. The accident took place on the Shikohabad road in Etah district of Uttar Pradesh when the Unnao MP was on the way to his ashram.

A speeding tanker, coming from the opposite direction, first hit a car moving ahead of the BJP MP's vehicle. Then, the tanker rammed into Sakshi Maharaj's car. The impact of the collision was such that the car's front portion has been severely damaged. Sakshi Maharaj and his driver sustained minor injuries in the accident.

Before ramming into the controversial BJP leader's car, the speeding tanker had hit two bikers, of whom one sustained severe injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

COURTING CONTROVERSY

The BJP MP had come out in support of jailed Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh after a special CBI court convicted him in a rape case. "I respect the judiciary but I want to say that crores of people are supporting Ram Rahim, and only one person is complaining against him. Is one person right or are crores of people right?" Sakshi Maharaj said.

The BJP MP later claimed that he was misquoted by media on Ram Rahim after the special CBI court sentenced the Dera chief to 20 years in jail for raping two of his disciples. "I didn't comment in favour of Ram Rahim. I was misquoted by the media. I respect the court's verdict against Ram Rahim. It is a victory for those who have been cheated in the name of faith," Sakshi Maharaj said.

Recently, the BJP MP blamed 'vulgar' public affection between couples as a cause for rape. "Couples behave in a 'vulgar fashion' in cars, parks and other places. People demand action against the police when rape happens, but the right thing is to take action against such couples and put them behind bars," Sakshi Maharaj said.

Sakshi Maharaj had earlier said that Hindu women must produce at least four children to 'protect' the religion.
