3 of family die as bike hits tanker

BEGUSARAI: Three members of a family were killed and two minors were injured when their bike collided with an oil tanker on the national highway-31 near Begusarai on Monday.

Police sources said the accident took place under the Zero Mile police outpost area.


"The deceased were identified as Ram Uday Tanti (42), his wife Sunita Devi (35) and his sister-in-law Rupmani Devi (38)," said outpost SHO Sunil Kumar Suman. Natives of Mahmadpur village under Nayagaon police station area of the district, they were on way to the house of a relative.


The injured children were admitted to the Begusarai sadar hospital where their condition was stated to be critical.


Reports said traffic movement on the highway came to a standstill for two hours as locals blocked the road in protest against the deaths. The agitators were demanding adequate compensation to the kin of the deceased.
