Bear who turned BALD after being stolen from the wild is now unrecognisable

A BEAR is becoming a global film star after enjoying a storybook ending to a tragic life that turned her bald.

These wonderful video scenes of Dominga the spectacled bear being hand-fed grapes show how she can finally enjoy a life of bliss.

The stress of being stolen from the wild along with her sister, only to see her sibling eventually die, left poor Dominga stricken by alopecia and losing her glorious fur.

As Paddington 2 is destined to become the most popular British film of the year, delightful YouTube footage shows that Michael Bond's lovable bear is not the only creature to have had adventures in "deepest, Darkest Peru".

Dominga was rescued earlier this year by British-based charity Animal Defenders International after never-ending chapters of sadness had punctuated her life, from the day she was stolen with her sister from the mountain forests of the Andes by wildlife traffickers, to being locked up in a tiny zoo.

Dominga can finally enjoy a life of bliss

It is an absolute joy to see Cholita, Dominga, Lucho and Sabina enjoying and exploring their forest homes

Jan Creamer - ADI President

Her 14 years of misery ended with her finally being ferried to a new home at the Taricaya Ecological Reserve on Peru's Amazon Tambopata National Preserve, where her paws were clipped and smoothed and gentle cream rubbed into her bare skin.

Today, Dominga is one of four spectacled bears given sanctuary by ADI with the support of the late Paddington creator, Michael Bond, as well as one of the stars of the new film, Joanna Lumley.

Dominga has joined Cholita, Lucho and Sabina at the forest refuge surrounded by the wild sounds and smells of the forest.

ADI President Jan Creamer says: "It is an absolute joy to see Cholita, Dominga, Lucho and Sabina enjoying and exploring their forest homes.

Dominga was left stricken by alopecia and lost her glorious fur

"Having suffered so much in their former lives, our 'real life Paddington bears' have a new lease of life, surrounded by nature and their own kind."

Jan was filmed feeding Dominga grapes after her earlier rescue and described the bear's first moments of freedom.

She said: "After Dominga's nails were trimmed and her skin treated, she must have woken up more comfortable than she had been in years.

"Seeing Dominga exploring her natural forest home and seeing her scenting her fellow bears all around her is wonderful.

"It has made this exhausting rescue operation worth every moment.

"But these magical bears are severely threatened and ADI urgently needs funds to protect the remaining wild bears, to help care for the bears we have rescued and educate the public.

"We need everyone to help save the iconic Paddington bear."

Cholita was ADI's first rescue bear, having also and lost her hair from the stress of being mutilated in a circus. Her fingers were cut off to remove her claws and her teeth broken.

Her ordeal saw Michael Bond speaking out shortly before his death.

He said: "Bears, especially from Peru, obviously have a special place in my life. It is such a horrendous story.

"I very much hope that, with the charity's help, Cholita will get the care she needs to recover."

Shortly after, Lucho and Sabina arrived from an illegal zoo where they had languished in small cages without veterinary care.

Dominga has finally been ferried to a new home at the Taricaya Ecological Reserve

ADI warns that endangered spectacled bears, which although protected by international conventions still suffer threats from traffickers and hunters, and is appealing for help to look after the ones it has rescued.

The charity's president said: "Please help ADI look after these bears, and save other animals in need."
