JAIPUR: Dissident BJP MLA Ghanshyam Tiwari on Sunday announced to field candidates of his yet-to-be-named political party on the 200 assembly seats during the 2018 assembly elections.
Bringing to an end all the speculations over him forming a new party, Tiwari made the announcement about it at a meeting of his organisation Deendayal Vahini at Sikar on Sunday. He had launched the organisation in December 2016. Talking to TOI, Tiwari said he had applied with the state election commission and would announce the name and symbol of his new party on Makar Sankranti, which is celebrated on January 14. The dawn of a new political party in the state will be marked on this Makar Sankranti. My party will field its candidates in all 200 assembly constituencies in the state,'' said Tiwari. When asked if he had parted ways with the BJP, he said, let the party remove me; why will I quit?''
Tiwari, a known Vasundhara Raje basher, said he refuses to contest elections under the leadership of the chief minister. I will now contest under the present state leadership of the BJP,'' he said, adding that he will continue to contest from Sanganer - the constituency he presently represents in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly.
In his speech at Sikar's meeting, Tiwari continued his attacks on the state government over reservation to Gujjars and economically back classes, unemployment and the current controversy surrounding the movie 'Padmavati'; demanding that the state government make its stand clear on these. He also criticised the government for deliberate damage to the state's dignity by bringing in 'outsiders'. The state government has brought in and given responsibility to outsiders, ignoring the local. Be it the representatives for Rajya Sabha or the chairpersons of various boards and commissions. Most of these people neither know nor can relate to Rajasthan's history and culture. They are not even aware of the social, political or economic issues of the state,'' he said.
The ruling-party MLA has been sidelined since the BJP came to power in 2013. Despite being one of the senior MLAs, he was denied a berth in the cabinet by Raje. Waging war against his own government, Tiwari in the past couple of years, stopped going to party meetings and became one of the most vocal critics of Raje and the BJP government in state. The first sign of him launching his own party came in December 2016, when he launched 'Deendayal Vahini' to fight against the corrupt leaders in the state. Accused on anti-party activities, he was also served a notice by the party in May this year. However, no disciplinary action was initiated.
