One more incident of terrorists kidnapping and torturing political workers in Kashmir Valley has been reported from Shopian. A video has gone viral on social media showing a political worker being held at gunpoint by terrorists, who are making him take an oath.

The man identified as Gulzar Ahmad from Wuthu in Shopian, was targeted for working with mainstream political parties in the Valley. Gulzar Ahmad is seen in the video being forced to take a pledge that he would not work with the political parties in future.

Gulzar Ahmad is a congress worker in Shopian, which has seen a spike in the number of local youths joining militancy in recent months. Gulzar was kidnapped by the terrorists and apparently tortured for taking efforts to bring more people in the mainstream politics in the Valley. He was later set free.

Many such cases and videos have been circulated in past several months in the Kashmir Valley. The motive of the terrorists seems to be forcing political workers to stay away from mainstream political process.

Militant groups have issued a few video statements warning political workers in the Valley asking them to stay away from mainstream political parties and helping the armed forces.

A BJP worker identified as Gowhar was killed in the Valley last week. His body was found in a pool of blood in the same area. In another incident, a former sarpach was killed in South Kashmir last month.

Days after his murder, a mob torched his house. His family had resisted the militants, who had come to kill the sarpanch. The number of local boys joining militant ranks has been increasing in south Kashmir. This is leading to a sense of insecurity among those participating in mainstream political activities at the ground level.
