PATNA: A 21-year-old youth committed suicide in a city hotel near Patna Junction on Monday.

A police official said the deceased was identified as Sameer Raj of Adampur locality in Khagaul area. Sameer was a graduate and stayed with his brothers after their parents' death. He was the youngest among the four siblings. Police recovered from the room a bag containing an affidavit of his marriage, a dupatta and two pairs of female slippers.

DSP law & order Shibli Nomani said after getting the information from the hotel staff, the room was opened in the presence of his family members. "Initial investigation reveals that Sammer has an affair with a girl and both had planned to elope. The youth probably committed suicide after the girl refused to elope with him," said Nomani, adding, "Both lived in the same locality and wanted to get married. We have come to know that the girl's family was not ready as they belonged to two different castes."

The boy had checked in the hotel late Sunday night saying he wanted a room as he had to catch a train early morning from Patna Junction. However, when the door remained closed till late in the morning, the hotel staff broke open the window and saw his body hanging from the fan. The DSP said police were trying to decode his mobile phone for further information.
