Illegal grains worth Rs 47.38L seized

Rajkot: Food grains weighing 1.52 kg worth Rs 47.38 lakh illegally hoarded after being siphoned off from fair price shops have been seized from Thoriyali village of Rapar taluka in Kutch district.


Following a tip-off about one Mahendra Soni hoarding the grains, the Special Operations Group (SOG) officials of Gandhidham police raided his godown on Sunday evening and detained him after effecting the seizure.


"The seizure items include 61 sacks of sugar, 155 sacks of tur dal, each weighing 50 kg and 10 sacks of tur dal each weighing 25 kg, 78 sacks of rice, 61 sacks of math, 50 sacks of jowar, 20 kg of wheat, 390 kg of mung dal, 76 sacks of chana dal, and 2,137 sacks of guvar," Gandhidham SOG inspector J P Jadeja said.
