Fresh deadline set for Sankranthi next year

Nearly two years after Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao inaugurated 396 double bedroom houses at IDH Colony in Bhoiguda, there seems no sign of the promised new housing colonies.

While the GHMC claimed to have called for tenders for the construction of one lakh houses, some of which were under various stages of completion, it failed to deliver on the promise of handing over the first instalment of houses on Dasara and Deepavali festivals last month.

Three colonies, respectively at Singam Cheruvu Thanda at Mansoorabad, Erukala Nancharamma Basthi at L.B.Nagar and Lambadi Tanda at Musheerabad were to be ready under the State government’s ambitious Double Bedroom Houses project. However, officials seemed to have jumped the gun in making the announcement, because more than two months later, the colonies are yet to be ready in all respects. The fresh deadline is being set to ‘Sankranthi’ next year, which will herald the season of house-warming at one colony after another. The first launch will be of the Mansoorabad project where 176 units are under construction, according to the GHMC. The houses are being built in-situ in the slum after taking over land from the residents, and issuing them possession certificates in advance. December was officially fixed as the deadline for the project, but GHMC announced delivery of the houses by Deepavali.

Pending work

As of now, electrification work is underway, and individual water and sewerage pipelines are being laid in the colony, inform officials. Approach roads will be laid only upon completion of sewerage line works.

“Though the earlier dwellings had water and sewerage connections, the alignment of pipelines needed to be changed completely owing to change of layout. Works are on, and we hope to deliver the houses in January 2018,” said a GHMC official. As per information last received from the GHMC, 102 locations have been identified for building double bedroom houses. Of them, 37 locations will have in-situ housing for slum dwellers.
