The grey smog-filled air in the Capital burst into a riot of colour as the Delhi Queer Pride made its way from Barakhamba Road to Parliament Street on Sunday.
Anti-pollution masks may have been more popular this year than colourful face masks, but the hazardous air failed to dampen the spirit of the hundreds of participant who danced, sang and marched against anti-discriminatory legislations.
Community initiative
The participants demanded and social accountability for discrimination on the basis of gender, class, caste, religion, ability, race, tribe, sexual orientation, and ethnicity, and the revocation of Section 377 of the IPC among other things, and sent their message across through creative placards and costumes.
The community initiative, in its 10th year, had put out a call for people to join it in the march against “oppressive attacks and varied forms of discrimination visited upon hijras, transwomen, transmen, lesbian, gay, inter-sex and sexually nonconforming, bisexual, multi-sexual, pan-sexual, asexual people and our allies in public and private spaces.”
